Q&A’s about Polesilks®
Your most common questions answered.
1. Why should I buy Polesilks?
Polesilks has been fully tested here in the UK and carries a certificate of safe use to a maximum limit of 95Kgs / 209Lbs, our silks are specifically made for us here in the UK to our own specification, these are QC’d to the highest standard by a world renewed material manufacture and have also been tested to our high standards and carry certification for the purpose of using them on the Polesilks unit.. This has allowed our insurance underwriters to grant Poleplus®Ltd a certificate of Product Liability world wide. This allows safe use for instructors and/or studio owners that have attended a recognised course such as Pole Fabric to be covered by their own Personal Liability Insurance. We are the ‘First’ and ‘ONLY’ company that has this cover.
2. What can I use Polesilks for?
Polesilks allows you to use pole and silks together without having to have had any experience of silks before. You can experiment with moves and let your imagination flow.
You can also use Polesilks to help students learn moves they have been struggling with such as shoulder mount and inverts as it provides them with a sense of security and additional support. It can be used to help ‘spot’ students and allows you to have another assistant! Polesilks can also be used to launch new classes such as aerial yoga, strength and flexibility training.
3. Does if fit my poles? What length SILKS will I need.
The Polesilks unit will fit 50mm and 45mm dance/fitness poles that are compression fitted or fixed. Due to other size poles on the market you can now chose other options to purchase adaptors to fit 38mm, 40mm or 42mm
The length of SILKS you require will depend on the height of your ceiling and what you will want to do with them.
10ft/6mtr option: These will fit a ceiling height of up to 10ft (this size fits most homes using standard purchased poles)
13ft/8mtr option: These will fit a ceiling height of up to 13ft (this fits studios with taller ceilings using longer poles)
If your unsure email us email@example.com or message us via Polesilks on Facebook.
4. Will the unit damage my pole?
NO. It has been designed to fit the pole so if fitted correctly there is no damage.
NOTE: Damage will occur if the Polesilks unit is not tightened correctly and we recommend it is fitted to the top of the pole where they have been strengthened. You MUST always follow your pole manufactures instructions regarding safety and checking procedures.( See box cover or How2 )
5. Do I have to take my pole down in order to fill Polesilks?
NO. The unit has been designed so that you can simply remove the silks to allow quick change over from Polesilks to Pole. ( See our How2 page)
6. How easy is the unit to fit?
Very easy and this covered by the course. Unit comes with full instructions. See box cover or our How2 page
7. Care of my Silks?
Our Silks are manufactured especially for us to a secret specification and are of very good quality and manufactured here in the UK. For a quick freshen up use a gentle spray of a freshening agent such as Febreeze. When washing use a 30 degree delicate setting with just washing powder. You can tumble dry on a low heat setting. In our experience it also best to hang over night after drying to allow a full airing of the silks.
NB. DO NOT WASH ABOVE 30 DEGREES
8. How long is it guaranteed for?
12 months, although the Polesilks metal unit was designed for durability and our own test unit has now been in use for over 18 months.
The silks also carry a guarantee of 12 months and again our silks have lasted us well over this time frame.
We must however draw your attention that the Silks supplied with our unit are a wearable part and that they must be checked regularly for damage or abrasions. We also supply a LOG with the silks as its standard practice that all time is recorded for your own records and that after 300 hours or 3 years they are changed.
This is why we log all sales and units are individually numbered.
9. Can I use Polesilks on a stage pole?
We are being asked this question quite a lot but at present as a company Poleplus®Ltd the manufacture of Polesilks does not advocate the use of our product on Stage Poles. Although through social media Polesilks can be seen on Stage Poles.
Our product has been used on stage poles by Poleplus Ltd enabling us to demonstrate Polesilks to studio owners and the public at our own risk and we have insurance and risk assessment in place for this purpose. However we cannot stop you from using our product on any other pole or apparatus that it was not tested on. The Polesilks unit and SILKS themselves were designed and tested for compression and permanently fitted studio poles.
We are at present in development of and very close to releasing Poleplus Ltd’s own stage pole which will be tested for the safe use of Polesilks. (Our Stage Pole information)
10. Why don’t you sell the Polesilks unit on its own?
We made a decision to stop selling just the metal Polesilks unit on its own for a number of reasons.
Firstly we want people to purchase a KIT that contains all the items you require to start having fun, lets face you don’t by a stage pole which has no pole with it.
Secondly the other point to consider is that Polesilks was designed and tested with YOUR safety as our main aim and the only way we can guarantee that was for Poleplus®Ltd to assure our new insurance company that from the 1st Nov 2013 this was adhered to.
Thirdly now working with many International Parties its very important that we standardise Polesilks across the globe. We now only supply the Multi-fit unit which fits a 50mm pole along with this you can choose between one of the following Alloy collars/adaptors to fit another size pole (45mm, 42mm, 40mm or 38mm) If your studio has differing sizes you are able to purchase additional alloy collars/adaptors making your initial purchase a one off payment, without the need to continually purchase a NEW Polesilks unit ever time you upgrade your studio to a different size pole/s.
